ok so last night I cast on the second largest size but with size 9 needles. I wanted it really slouchy and a bit tighter of a knit. it was still loose, too loose for my liking. mostly because I have this madelinetosh yarn with these very subtle hints of color and you cant see them as well with the bigger needles.
I am going to try tonight with size 7 needles …. fingers crossed

ok so I have been swamped with gift knitting and I finally have time to pick this back up….only to have lost the notebook my row by row notes were in…im frogging as I type =(.

DO OVER!
I’m going to go with the size 9 needles…. I think in my first attempt I ended up going down to a 6 but as my notes are lost…we will never know. That will teach me to slack on entering my notes into ravelry! (but I also had written out row by row directions and stitch counts to be fair)
Anywho, I’m making the XXL size because I am going down a needle size and I want the sweater to be light and super drapey. Also, I’m not fooling myself, I’m not a little lady either. I normally wear an XL on top tho, not a XXXL. That’s why I love the look of this sweater…the V in the back makes it slimming.

I decided to add my Spun Right Round dirty denim colorway. I want the sweater to be cool and one of a kind without screaming “hi I’m homemade because no manufacturer would ever produce something in this combination” Does that make sense? Like OOAK but still pretty.
I think I’m going to do my next (4th) section with the Great Gray Owl again. That is the color I started with. That way I will keep some continuity with the color choices.

I’m driving myself nuts with picking colors… besides changing my mind a million times, I’ve taken out every fingering weight in my stash to see if it works.
That’s how I came to decide on the cathedral.

I’m adding more 22 row sections, so far 3, I’m pretty tall, about 5’10”, and I would like this to cover my butt. I know it will stretch and I still have to add the collar so I may stick with 3.
Im trying to end with a stockinet section….AND BE DONE BY RHINEBECK
11-09-2016
so the Rhinebeck thing didn’t happen… no surprise there. As I type this I am on my last sleeve. I did the collar part before the sleeves, mostly because I just wanted the body done.
COLLAR MODS: I knit both sides at the same time because I wanted to have a thicker collar than 3 or 4 rows at the back of the neck. So what I did was do like 4 or 5 short rows on the left and then knit across to the right and repeat. then back to the left side for another 4 or 5 short rows and knit across and repeat what I did on the left. I kept going until I had like 30 or so short rows.
the other mod I made by accident was when I added the extra sections I ended on a st st section, I thought because of the garter border it wouldn’t be a problem… the border is flipping itself up now (before blocking) I hope blocking solves the issue. ill make a note if it doesn’t in hopes of saving someone the trouble.
The sleeves are the only other change…. as it is now November I wanted full sleeves instead of 3/4. and I went down to size 7 for 2 x 2 ribbed cuff.

my final note! I just wanted to add that this sweater grew about 30% after blocking. its super long. I’m tall so I don’t mind, I actually prefer it. but a heads up to anyone knitting it in the gauge on the pattern.

This comment is to give the last photo some context and is more about the yarn than the project… obviously I have encountered some pilling (or a whole ton). I have only hand washed this 2 times since blocking and I have no idea why its pilling so badly. I mean its not just the arm pits or places with a lot of wear, its everywhere I used the madtosh 80/10/10.
I think this is a blessing in disguise though, I love this cardi but the sleeves just didn’t feel right on me. I prefer a tighter knit on my sleeves when working with fingering weight. I am toying with the idea to frog the sleeves and use a different yarn and smaller needle.
Also, I like to be able to role my sleeves or scrunch them up so I am def gonna add a nice long ribbed cuff and make this full length sleeves. I dont even think I would have to adjust the stitch count much because the sleeves are very loose.
So if you see a note after this one, I have gotten around to doing it.
