Update 23/12/13
Another 36 mice added. Next year it may well have to be 60, as demand was so high this year!
Knitting them all up en masse so that meant 12 slighty “bloody”, severed heads in a basket. Yesterday was 24 feet and 24 ears but they didn’t photograph so well!
Doing all the little bits like this is a bit boring but I think it may make it quicker in the long run. Each mouse has 11 basic parts and then accessories like scarves, bows, lanterns etc and I have calculated that I will have to make around 160 pieces to finish the set. Aargh!!
I sewed the features on before attaching the head to the body so that all the ends will be hidden in the neck. It may also help with getting the head to sit straight on the body.
I did them all last year which took a lot longer than this set will because I made them one at a time. I must remember not to stuff the arms too tightly this time and to position the feet farther back so they stand easier.
2/12. I finally finished them after a marathon weekend knitting and sewing up session so that they will be ready for the shop’s Christmas opening on Thursday.
I knitted some in duplicate because they were more popular last year…the carol singers and mince pie seller. If I find a few spare hours, I might have a go at a couple of snowmice but to be quite honest, I’m looking forward to knitting something BIG now!
