The pattern is fine. My brain is highly suspect.

Somehow I’m stitching the nose where the ears need to go. I’m either going to make a patch of nose and sew it on later, or I’m going to make a stitch diagram: whenever I knit or crochet a word based pattern, I have to make a chart eventually!
