Personally, I really didn’t like the look of so many different colors in the sample blanket, but the pattern looked promising. I knit it up with 2 different yarns held together - 1 was a solid baby blue, and the other was a blended blue and white yarn. Both were fingering weight. I used slightly larger needles, too.

This was my first baby blanket knit, and it took forever. Then I accidentally spilled vanilla extract on my first 1/3 of the blanket, and I had to throw it out and start over completely. It was a sad day. But, this was my first large project as a beginner knitter, I learned a ton, and it turned out really well!
