Here’s the thing{s}:
- I am a bad person.
- I am consistently knitting above my ability.
- I am a bad person.
When these powers combine, I do stupid / irresponsible stuff like hearing at podcast, ie. YarnGasm Podcast, and saying, “Why yes - I would be a perfectly good test knitter for your lace shawl.”
Even when I’ve never knitted lace. Ever. In my entire life.
This was actually the pattern / project that knocked me off of my high-knitting horse. It made me realized think that maybe I wasn’t as talented and amazing as all the older ladies at the LYS said I was.
The reality was a bit more complicated.
The pattern was good. Well made and easy to understand, even for an {over}confident beginner like myself.
The “cons” were that I simply didn’t know what I was signing up for: a point-up triangular lace shawl, i.e. I didn’t realize that what started as three stitches would bloom into… lots more. And more. And more.
I simply got frustrated when all I saw on my circulars was what looked like a goobledy-gook of pretty but frustrating tangle of yarn. So I finally finished a row and bound off. A while {think months} later, I finally attempted at blocking it. Only when I shot these pictures to add this to my project list did I realize I blocked it upside down. :\
All this to say: I feel like I bad person for taking advantage of free pattern/ testing knitter status unwittingly.
The result is beautiful if a bit small. I added the headphones in for scale but it’s actually better to explain this as a kerchief rather than a shawl.
But I’ve heard kerchiefs are a thing this year. Maybe I will let this one see the light of day… after I re-block it.
