Finished the back. Somehow my row gauge is way off and the sweater is much longer than anticipated. I noticed just before I started the armhole shaping, but thought it would be hard to calculate how to fix the problem, so I’m going to continue as I’ve been going and hope the longer sweater still looks good.

13.05.16
Tiny stocking stitch +summer = knitting laziness
The front is progressing VERY slowly!

14.07.16
Been feeling a little more motivated on this sweater lately and reached the intarsia on the front this week, which makes knitting a lot more interesting. Can’t believe I have TWO SLEEVES to make after this! Not sure this sweater will be done before winter…

18.07.16
Knitting was so much more interesting once I got past all that flat stocking and I just finished the front! Did the provisional CO for the tubular CO for sleeve 1 and realised I forgot to bring the smaller needles recommended. Think I will just do the CO in the size A needle and see how it looks. I imagine if I do the two sleeves the same, it won’t be too noticeable and I want to keep going while I’m feeling motivated on this project.

31.07.16
Making excellent progress on my first sleeve. I thought each sleeve would take about as long as the front or back sections but they’re much quicker and the increases make the knitting quite addictive.
Later
Sleeve done!

02.08.16
Finding the second sleeve knitting pretty addictive at the moment. I haven’t made a sweater in pieces in years so I’m a little apprehensive about the seaming.

03.08.16
Going to block my front and back pieces, aiming for measurements right between sizes 2 and 3.

05.08.16
The measurements on the schematic are a little difficult to understand but I did my best. I’ll block again once I’ve done the seaming but my pieces are closer to the stated measurements ready to sew.

26.08.16
Been distracted by another project for the past few weeks. Nearly finished the second sleeve- just the saddle to go now. Soon I’ll be able to block the sleeves and then… the seaming!

30.08.16
Had a fit of inspiration over the weekend and started the seaming. It is very fiddly and really takes several hours to make it look perfect. The instructions indicate to start with the most challenging seams (connecting the saddles to the blocks of colour at the shoulder, highly visible). I’ve also picked up the stitches around the neck.

31.08.16
Still making progress on the seams and neckline. Taking time when sewing in the ends to use duplicate stitch to neaten up any untidiness. Felt a little sad when looking through the projects on here as some other people’s colour blocks look so much neater than mine. Think that is partly the wool. Slightly dreading stitching down the neckline at the end…

05.09.16
Finally tried on the sweater and the fit is pretty good! Only real annoyance is that, due to my gauge issues, I followed the pattern exactly and the body is too long and the sleeves slightly too short. But I still feel I will be proud to wear this sweater.

07.09.16
Finished knitting the neck band and cast off last night. Final step will be to stitch the neck band down and then I should be able to block this by the weekend! Eek!

23.02.18
I’ve never been that happy with the fit of this sweater. I wear it a fair amount because it’s nice and warm. I tend to wear it to work on office days with jeans. Planning to rip out the bottom few inches and re-knit the ribbing to make it quite a bit shorter. I think it’ll look better if it hits on the hip.

31.07.2018
Have started re-knitting the bottom ribbing.
