Notes

I made this to fit my oldest daughter, it’s about a size 4-5T. I added a 3 button band on the left shoulder for a better fit.

The front and back are worked over 85 sts. 30 sts for the left shoulder, 25 sts for the neck, 12 sts for the button band then 18 sts for the right shoulder.

I started with the front and worked the buttonholes on the 3rd row (work in rib for the first 55 sts (30 for the left shoulder, 25 for the neck), then (K2tog tbl, yo, ktbl, p1) 3X, then back to ribbing til the end of the row).

I worked the ribbing for 1.5”, then worked the short row shaping 4 times. I worked the front yoke until I reached 5.5” total length from cast on.

To work the back, I started by casting on 12 sts for the button band and knitted that in garter st for about 5/8” then cut the yarn. I picked up 18 sts from the right shoulder of the front piece, knitted the 12 sts of the button band, cast on 25 sts for the neck then picked up 30 sts from the left shoulder.

The button band goes under the front, the outer edge of it will be sewn under the front piece and buttons will be added at the end.

I then proceeded to knit the back exactly the same way as the front.

Once back and front were completed, I joined in the round and knitted a couple rows before switching to the next colour.

I knitted the contrasting body for 7” then switched back to the first colour for the split hem. It is worked exactly as is in the book.

For the sleeves, I picked up 46 sts across. Each colour block is 10 rows long, but in retrospect I should’ve made that 11 rows for a slightly longer sleeve. I’ve worked 1 decrease row in each of the last 4 stripes, for a total of 8 sts decreased (38 sts across the wrist).

That’s it! Easy peasy
