Note: Prewash the Zealana Kiwi if mixing with lighter colours the teal bled badly like most intense colourways.

KiwiMAL 2026 project 2. Marina’s yarn and NZ designer. Remainder of skeins to go into fingerless mitts by same designer, same colour family as my Selene shawl. Will increase depth of ribbing, possibly for a run up brim for more ear warmth.

Cast on brim with Zealana Kiwi fingering in the Pounamu colourway, and 2.75 mm needle. 154 stitches.

July 3, 2026

4cm of ribbing, time for a purl row for turn up.

July 5, 2026

2 repeats done after 4 cm turn up brim, thinking another 12 rounds before crown decreases, as a bit short on row guage.

July 6, 2026

Almost got to the crown decreasing, 2nd night of TDF knitting marathon, but called it a night. DPNs hunt, may go down a needle size as I have added my extra length.

Cast off after 1st crown decreases instructions, and total of 3.5 sections of mosaic pattern on the stitch count of the smaller adult size.
Preblocking length 24.5 cm including the 4.25 cm brim turn up.
Weighs 70.5 gms, used 15 gms of handdyed and 56 gms of Kiwi.

Blocked guage is 28 stitches (2 repeats) and 44 rows per 10 cm. Length grew 1 cm in blocking. Ribbing a little loose, will knit ribbing in this yarn another needle size down.
