Work in fingering 4ply with mohair for sportweight guage.
September 1, 2025
Cast 30 stitches to follow the instructions for back (as a swatch), adding 2nd strand of mohair on row following cast on. Using 4mm needle on back until sleeve join, and 4.5 mm for the front and rest of body.
After knitting 7.5 cm and getting to 60 stitches, width is 11 cm at cast on and 23 cm active row. Giving it a soak for guage. I am happy with the fabric. I like the fabric at 24.5 stitches and 32 rows guage, so will continue on this needle for the 1st section on back.
September 4, 2025
Blocked guage - 24 stitches and 32 rows, width grew 13% and depth shrunk about the same, so remember when measuring unblocked seams.
It should take 43 rows to reach straight section of back at this guage.
September 6, 2025
Continuing straight, with 99 stitches on the needle, for 10 rows then start underarm shaping for armscye depth.
Added 5 increases as per pattern.
Picked up 38 stitches and decreased to 29 stitches for shoulder shaping (3 stitches more than my size).
Worked 18 rows of right shoulder, and place stitches on hold.
September 7, 2025
After matching left should to the right, I began adding increases to the neck edge. 1 stitch added every 4 rows for total of 6 increases, now only increasing at sleeve edge at half the rate.
September 10, 2025
Completed the front to 23.5 cm and broke the yarn, rejoined on the back, to continue another 4.5 cm of length on 4.5 mm needle.
Joined at underarms.
September 13, 2025
Finished the 1st 40 gms of mohair after joining under the armholes
September 14, 2025
Started horizontal bust darts 5cm below armhole join, and worked 10 pair.
September 18, 2025
Underarm length is now 14 cm, and I have done 5 cm of shaping (decreases) to reduce ease added for my bust, but adding stitches at ends for centre join.
Joined the 2nd skein of Fiber Lily sock, and knit a few more rows increases at the ends and decreases at side seams.
September 19, 2025
My second order of mohair (from the same yarn store) has matching dyelot, so I will work another 7 cm of body, then switch to the sleeves with new mohair balls.
September 21, 2025
Joined in the round after casting on the 16 stitches.
Knit 7 cm of the body in the round .
September 23, 2025
Put the body on hold, cut yarn and joined to underarm to pick up sleeves stitches, ignoring the instructions regarding pickup rate and decrease in the next round. I pick up 1 stitch in each stitch, and only decreased 6 stitches, 2 stitches either side of bor marker, and 2 stitches near corners at top of shoulder.
Followed larger size for 1st part of shortrows, but after completing 1st section, went 1 stitch after turn (for each side) rather than the instructed 2 stitches past.
24th September
Too hot to work on sleeves today as it is 29C. Worked on a new cast on shawl instead.
October 4, 2025
Down to just above the elbow on 1 sleeve, the other 7cm below the underarm join.
Will start increasing the taper. Knit to 18cm (elbow), and had enough of small circumference knitting and rejoined to the body.
October 7, 2025
Joining in another ball of mohair and soon another, both sleeves now under the elbow in length.
Last of 2nd skein of Fiber Lily used on sleeve (just before change to cuff). I will break off and join at elbow of the other sleeve with 3rd skein.
October 11, 2025
After matching the 2nd sleeve, I have put stitches on hold. 96.8 grams of the Fiber Lily left and 55 gms of Ito Sensai.
Neckline stitches picked up, and knit on a 3.75 mm needle.
October 12, 2025
Added 2 decreases in ribbing close to shoulder seam, to narrow the v-neck shaping.
Cast-off with alternating bind off. As I only used 9 gms of the sock yarn on the neckline, I have decided to add a shallow scoop to the back hemline, when I add length, starting at the hip bone,
October 15, 2025
Finished the 7th ball of mohair, only half the hem ribbing done, so I am going to have to use the 9th ball purchased for another project.
October 17, 2025
Cast off ribbing on the left sleeve. Glad I made it full length with minimal taper from the elbow to wrist.
