Notes

3 skein triangular shawl MKAL starts 19 July

30-06-2024

Wound up the Delta skeins, so ready for the MKAL

20-07-2024

Completed first repeat of clue 1. Will finish 2nd repeat tonight, watching the cycling from France.

24-07-2024

37 gms of main colour used so far, 5 rows of chart 2 to do.
Preblocking guage 25 stitches 33 rows over 10 cm.

26-07-2024

Started clue when I got home from work, perfect for watching sporty types late into the night.
2.50 am Finished 1st 13 rows of chart 3, and changed 1st tip to 4mm. And other needle tip changed end of row 14.
Half way through row 16, when I nodded off, missed last 40 minutes of Opening ceremony.

Worked 2.5 rows of twisted rib, then took a break, repeat ….
10 pm started final row of rib. Final row completed 11.30pm after an unplanned nap. Project weighs about 78 gms now.
51.7 gms left of my 1st skein of Delta.

29-07-2024

The Games on for Clue 3. An easy start for tonight’s viewing.
10pm finished row 9. Very, much enjoying this intuitive lace with texture stitches.

30-07-2024

Started row 19 clue 3, with cable cross. Finished morning 1st August.
23 gms of 1st skein of Delta left.

02-08-2024

Will weigh my B colour after clue 4, I have a 20 gram mini in a pale grey that could subitute for a few stripes or a section if required, so I can finish with original B colour. 12.8 gms Delta left end of row 8 chart 5.

04-08-2024

I usually use mismatched brand wooden interchangeable needles for flat knitting (to avoid rowing out, same size but fractionally different), double checking my tips on needle guage, I found 2 brands I had been using were a very tight fit, this could account for yarn usage and extra drapey fabric, this time in the twisted rib I chose tips that were finer and looser fit in the guage sizer.

38.41 gms of contrast left, another 4 rows of twisted rib to go for this section.

06-08-2024

Row 8, clue 5, joined in 2nd skein of Delta (A). 29.43 gms of contrast left after row 4.
Finished chart 9th August.

10-08-2024

Started with just under 75 grams of 2nd skein of Delta for the final clue, no need to yarn manage my contrast, but may use it for the picot bind off, we will see.

11-08-2024

Finished row 10 of final chart with 49.6 grams left, changing to contrast colour to see if I like a final 2 row stripe, before picot cast off in main. 6 grams of contrast used on the 2 row stripe, row 13 completed in main.

Change needle to long dpn 5 mm for picot cast off, using Russian lace bind off technique.

14th August started bind off for the 2nd time, got almost to halfway point, before elbow was aching again.

16-08-2024

Off the needles with 36 gms of 2 generous skeins of main colour left (after substituting 2 rows of contrast before final row of chart), will try to block today. Spine length 85 cm pre-blocking, wingspan/top edge 187 cm. 25 stitches, 33 rows pre-blocking.

Blocked guage 18 stitches, 37 rows to 10 cm.
Final spine depth 1 meter, top edge 219.5 cm.
