I have used 78% cotton / 22 acrylic yarn but it is possibly a recycled product, and the coloured fluff is coming off in use, another soft cotton would have been a better choice.
The pattern is dropped stitches for texture. No elastene in my yarn, so knit on smaller needles.

Swatch did not work on 3.5 mm needle will try on 2.5 mm.
Looking better, may still be a bit loose as using 100% cotton.

When reached 1st spoke of steering wheel, stopped following increase instructions, and kept 4 stitch border, twisting the stitch next to selvage on wrong side. Worked textured drop stitch pattern, until straight border reached 15 rows.

Finished a 2nd no increase section last night, now to carry on knit the other half. Have been thinking about crocheting 3 cords with elastic (to thread though eyelet edging), to secure to the steering wheel when completed.

Unstretched I have reached 65 cm in length, another 2 or 2 and half repeats to go before tackling cords.

Finished joining the tube of steering wheel cover and started crochet chain. When I have enough length, I will thread hat elastic on darning needle, and weave it through back bumps, as my cotton has no elasticity. I will jointhe edges through the eyelets leaving gaps for the ‘spokes of the wheel.
It is 8.5 cm wide at narrowest points unstretched, and 92 cm in length.

Did a long crochet chain, and with big darning needle threaded the hat elastic through back bumps of the crochet stitches.
On the 29th, using the crochet hook to grab the end of the cord, I threaded the crochet cord through the eyelets of each edge, as though sewing up a seam, and through the back eyelets only in the gaps for spokes of steering wheel. Size knit for a comfortly stretched fit, could have been slightly shorter in the shorter sections.
The elastic ensures a secure fit, the length knit was shorter than radius of the wheel, and it has not stretched (than the stetched to fit shape when fitted) further in use.
