My friend is leaving our airline to join another airline! I made her this doll in our company uniform to remember us all by!
I very loosely followed the ‘Polly’ pattern in the Let’s knit ‘playtime knits’ supplement from May 2013. I made the legs 2 rows longer as my friend is tall.
I left out the straps from the shoes as the uniform ones don’t have it.
The dress is worked by my own design, but I pretty much cast on 49 stitches, and worked straight until I got to the hip area, then decreased 2 on 2 alternate rows in the centre.
The dress was finished as a strap dress and then I picked up 8 stitches from around the shoulder and stitched 10 rows increasing 2 stitches on both sides, as I knit the sleeve down the arm.
The neckerchief I did in milla Mia yarn for its silky texture. I cast on 3 stitches, and inc 1 at both ends until I got to like, 10sts. Then knit straight until it went around her neck, then bound it with metallic yarn.
The hat I entirely invented the construction myself- and I’m quite proud of it! I basically knit in the milla Mia st st 15 sets until it wrapped around her head, then folded it in half lengthwise, sewed up the seam and inserted a piece of card the length of the rim to keep it upright . Then I sewed the tube together. I then, using dpns, picked up stitches around the rim, and knit a round, then dec every 4, and kinda domed it around the head. I then loosely threaded red dk wool along the top to match our uniform. Then embroidered on the silver wings.
The handbag I just made up too, with Icord handles.
I really hope she likes it! I’m quite impressed with it- it looks just like our cabin crew uniform!!! :-D
