Notes

The end result isn’t really the Campfire Cardigan. I used that pattern as a starting point.
Mine is shorter, has a border, has billowed sleeves & cuffs, and doesn’t have a hood. But that’s what makes hexagon cardigans so much fun! They’re so customizable!

Creating gradient w/different yarns :
Dark > Light - then start over
• BT-Pine Green > BT-Olive Drab > LB-Olive > RH-Frosty Green > LT-Mushroom
• Edging : CS-Dark Almond

• 10/7 : 1) Started. Completed R1 - had to figure out how I’m going to do the color changes. I think I’m going to attach the new color to the top of the last cluster of the R before it (20m)
2) Completed R2-8 - tried doing a Russian join - not a fan, creates a bulky section. I think I’m going to stick to a Magic Knot join. It creates a small knot, but I don’t think it will be a bother - I prefer that over the bulky section, or having to sew in all the ends. (127m)
• 10/8 : Completed R9-14 (158m)
• 10/7 : Completed R15-16 (92m)
• 10/9 : Worked on R17 (10m)
• 10/10 : 1) Completed R17-18 (38m)
.. First hexagon complete!
.. Probably too big by 2 rounds a least. Will make the second hexagon before I start adjusting the size though.
2) Completed R1-8 of hexagon 2 (90m)
• 10/11 : Completed R9-11 (64m)
• 10/12 : 1) Completed R12-15 (111m)
.. Second hexagon complete!
.. Decided 15rnds was a good size, will frog the 1st hexagon down to match
2) Stitched one hexagon sleeve closed (51m)
• 10/13 : Frogged first hexagon down to match the second and stitched the sleeve closed (30m)
• 10/14 : 2 rnds of extension on both hexi frames & sleeves (104m)
• 10/15 : +2 rnds of extension on both frames & sleeves (58m) .. started extending just the front, back, & bottom, starting & stopping on either side of the neckline so I don’t extend more towards the neck (116m)
• 10/16 : +3 of extension on both frames & sleeves (114m)
• 10/17 : Quickly whipstitched the panels together to try on : neck line is too high. will have to frog the last 3 rounds on the frame and restart 1 more space away from the shoulder seam.
Frogged & redid the 3 rnds on 1 panel (102m)
• 10/18 : Reworked the frogged rnds on the 2nd panel (41m)
• 10/19 : Realized I made.one panel backwards, frogged & redid 4 rows (134m)
• 10/20 : 1) Stitched the 2 panels together in the back (43m)
2) Added rows to the bottom hem (38m)
• 10/27 : Worked on bottom hem (100m)
• 10/29 : 1) Worked on bottom hem & sleeves (52m)
2) Cuffing sleeves : CS Dark Almond .. followed this vid (128m)
8mm hook, 1 row (sc, dec) repeat
Switched to 5.5mm hook for ribbing
Ch 11 to start
had to frog first attempt, too tight
2nd attempt perfect. 1 cuff done!
• 10/31 : Completed 2nd cuff (88m)
• 1/8/24 : Started border. Completed preparation rnd of sc and 2 moss stitch rounds. (119m)
Used 6mm hook for SC’s, switched back to 8mm for MS.
• 1/9 : Completed border : total of 1 SC row + 4 MS rows. ~1in wide (47m)

Total time : 2075 min = 34 hours + 35 minutes

1/26 : Washed it on gentle/hand-wash cycle in the clothes washer (cold, light spin & soil). Instead of detergent I put a little hair conditioner in. Draped it over a clothes rack to dry. The result is noticeably softer then before the wash. It’s not baby soft or anything miraculous, given the yarns I used, but it did at least make the different yarn brands all feel the same. Also it seems like the wash did not affect the shape/drape.
