Notes

3Nov10: 9 little metal buttons and we are done! I did a few more rows of moss stitch for the button band to make it wider.

It’s a very useful cardigan compared to the original pattern, so I am pleased. Some waist shaping should have been added, perhaps.

15Sept10: I’ve just completed the first sleeve. I made it from the top down, circularized it at the underarm and sewed it on to the blocked and sewed body, before continuing. I AM OF THE OPINION that there is an error in the sleeve. The cap simply is not long enough after the 18th 2st/EOR increase to fit into the arm hole. I, personally, added 12 rows of even lace pattern between the sleeve cap and the underarm. If you want a roomier fit, you should add even more.

Several decreases were required soon after the underarm to decrease that roomy upper sleeve, as seen in the model. I have long and skinny arms, but if you’d like my sleeve instructions I’ll happily send them to you.

As for the fronts (I re-did one side 3 times!!), my extra lace patterns in the back required some messing around. I just threw away the pattern instructions and continued short rowing the whole way up the front as established at the beginning, alternating knit and purl short rows. When it was time for the armholes, I simply incorporated them into whatever short row section I happened to be in. Good for me, as the sweater is a normal length. The pattern is ridiculously short. And I have a normal torso, monkey arms, yes!, but a regular old torso. =)

8July10: Errata on Vogue website to add extra lace pattern 2 on beginning of front. Thanks to pepperboy for pointing it out to me, too.

As I mentioned, I continued with double lace pattern 2’s up the back -- that messes a bit with the front matching, BUT frankly, I would have never got to the armholes at the right part of the pattern anyway: way too short. The extra section gives me the length I need. I’m just going to keep the same pattern of Knit short rows and Purl short rows going up the front, while integrating increases. I don’t see any problem with that… YET.

26June10: Back clarification: After the armhole shaping, you end up with a stitch number divisible by 8+1, instead of 8+3 as specified by Lace Pattern 2. To re-center the lace, start and end Rows 1&3&5 with K1 (not K2 total); Row 7 with K2 (not K3 total); Row 9 with K3 (not K4 total).

The pattern advises only 1 repeat of Lace Pattern 2 after armhole shaping. I continued with 2, did another 24 rows of stockinette, and then managed 1 repeat of Lace Pattern 2 right before the shoulder shaping.

20June10: I thought this pattern was so innovative, but I feel like no one noticed it. The short rows skew the lace into diagonals!! How cool is that?!

My mods will include (1) making full-length sleeves, (2) slimming up the sleeves considerably, and (3) extending the button band for a complete cardigan.

Using up this ginormous skein of mill ends I got. Stash-happy.
