It was a mistake to use such small needles the fabric is very stiff next time use 4 mm with worsted or even 4.5 mm

CO 66 sts 3.25 mm needles and Aran
5 rows 2x2 rubbing (starting with knit 2)
Then garter stitch until 11cm from beginning including ribbing!
