This gauge is ridiculous. The gauge she gives is 6.5 with size 3 needles. I’m getting 4.5 within a 2.75. I’m making the large, which is stated to be 17.5” in diameter. Mine is 24” and falls straight over dh’s head.

I’m a full 2 stitches over with the smaller needle, which means I would have to drop down to a size 0 and 00 to get the stated gauge. There is no way I’m making a hat with needles that small. In order to get the large size I’ll have to cast on the small with size 1 and then move up to 2.75.

After ditching the knitpicks wood needle I was using, I tried a Hiya Hiya sharp tip in size 2.75 and got much better results. The fabric feels stiff and slightly crunchy, which is surprising to me for such a spendy trendy yarn, but I hope it will soften with blocking. DH is very eager for me to finish it! Now if I could only understand why it is slanty… I’m guessing there are different stitch gauges for each yarn which is making it wonky. I’m hoping that will block out as well.
