I have a big head. Decided to do this hat in DK weight.

yarn recommended=7.5 st/inch finished hat 17” --too small

yarn I used=5.5st/in. If I just did the hat as written with DK weight yarn my hat would be 23”--too big

Someone said they made the hat in kid size by co 110 sts.
DK weight at 110sts=20”--just right!

Increasing: Problem. 110st increase k1, kfb give you 165sts. 165 is not divisible by 12 (sts for repeat). But 168 is. So I have to increase 3 more sts evenly over increase round. What I did was divide 3 by 110=aprox 36. Marked the three 36 sts and did a kfb into a stitch that should have been a k. Now I have 168 sts and double increases are nicely spaced out. Hmmm… should have done this math before I started knitting

Second increase:
need to increase 24 more stitches, so knit 6, kfb 23 times. Then knit 5, kfb. 192 sts

Decrease:

after chart finished with 64sts not devisable by 12. So ripped back to row 34 and did 4 more decreases. K 14, ssk, k14, kt2g, k14, ssk, k14, k2tog. End with 60 stitches which works!

All I have to do now is block (ugh) and bind off…this might take me months
