Feb. 21: Finally bought the pattern today and plan to start as soon as my ATDS is finished.
This was a looooong consideration process - I just could not decide which of Alfa’s patterns to knit first. Almonds in Space was also in the relevant set, but I decided to go for this one.
Plan to make the neckline not as deep, more like a very shallow crew neck or a boat neck - we will see how this works!

Casted on - will work with 1 colour only until working in the round, fiddly enough with this saddle shoulders!
I do not really get the increases as given in pattern right, as they are so close to the edge, mine are holey and result in holes when picking up stitches again - gnaaa! Sewed them close with the cast on tails, but I am not sure I will use this construction again - do not see the advantage compared to a simple raglan yoke - will have to see if the fit is maybe better.
As I want a less deep neckline, I joined into the round in row 4 after combining shoulder, front and back stitches - I am just not sure if I will still have to do the neckline shaping as the pattern tells you - I think I dont have to…

I am in row 45 and just finished the third contrasting stripe. Yarn looks very different from how I espected, but I quite like it nevertheless.
I might add in a solid coloured stripe in apple green later for a little more contrast…

Separated the sleeves from the body yesterday evening - now up to the short row fun!
February 25, 2020
Finished first 20 short rows in the self-striping yarn yesterday. It’s colour repeats and the “fake” isle pattern are not ideal for this project, next time, I would choose a yarn more on the mere stripes side- well, let’s see how this develops, I might add in some solid coloured stripes.
Do not work German short rows, but shadow wrap short rows as described here »

Finished 2nd wedge, now into the middle of the 3d wedge.
If someone has an idea how to avoid holes when knitting over the turning point from the last wrong side from the left side - please let me know!
Asked for a solution in the Al-fa knits forum and got the tip to try these yarn over short rows » - will try this today!

Took progress photos in the middle of the 5th wedge (= 3d coloured wedge)
Decided to return to German short rows as they are easiest for me and look ok in the selfstriping yarn.

Finished body - I had 70 stitches instead of 50 when the pattern told me to do the 3-needle-bind -off, so I added some more short rows and decreases in my main colour.
I was a little concerned that this would be too tight around my hips, but I think it will be ok (though I did not try it on so far)..
Ran out of multi-coloured yarn for the last 4 stripes, so added a gradient teal sockyarn which fits nicely, I think.

Tried it on - fits very well. Not oversized off course, but not too tight either.
Started the first sleeve with 81 stitches. Will not do striping on the sleeves as I ran out of the multicoloured yarn and do not want to use more of the Pro Lana as it is more on the scratchy side.
March 7, 2020
Finished first sleeve after 12 decreases every 10 rows
12 rows oft 2by 2 rib
Stretchy bind off
March 8, 2020
Finished second sleeve - yeah! Now just the neck and bottom cuffs and I am done. I am not totally sure what type of finishing I will use.
I sure do not want to do a long ribbing on the bottom, as it is long enough as it is already…
March 9, 2020
Picked up and knit 6 rows of 2 by 2 rib on the neck, used elastic cast off mimicking single crochet.
March 10, 2020
Added bottom ribbing, 5 rows of 2 by 2 rib, bound off in single crochet with a 2.5 mm hook.
Now just have to sew in ends and give it a nice soak…

Wore it for the first time today. Decided that the neckline was a bit too floppy, so I did a row of crochet sip stitches with a 3.5 mm hook around the neckline -now it is tighter and fine!
