Always wanted to make myself a hat with a wide brim to wear when sitting on the terasse and reading in the sun in summer. Quite like the outcome - only used the brim instructions from the pattern, made a standard hat for the top (increasing to 72 stitches, crocheting 16 rounds before starting the brim).
Used paper coated wire (Papierdraht) to stiffen the brim, looks quite promising. Might consider addition starching.
