When this pattern came out, most of us probably shrugged and smiled and moved on.

Meanwhile, there are campaigns in several countries to wear DIY face masks in public to protect others.

And the initiatives emphasize the fact that the REAL, medical devices are to be left for healthcare professionals and that we should make our own devices.

So here I am, knitting away on my versionof this mask.
I casted on 48 instead of 38 stitches as I use way smaller needles to get a tight fabric.

I did start the short rows 16 stitches before end of row and I will repeat the short row section 4 times instead of 3 times.

Did not do an ICord, but crocheted the ear loops for attachment. 20 cm is really generous, even with a big head like mine. I think I would do shorter straps next time.

Did another one in dishcloth cotton leftovers, using needle size 2,75 mm. Casted on 38 stitches as given in pattern, did ear straps way shorter to make it sit more snuggly.

As it will be obligatory to wear a “mouth-and-nose-protection” in public transport and in grocery stores from Monday, 27th of April on, I thought it would be a good idea to make more.

Did a red version in Catania, with 2.5 mm needles, casting on 45 stitches. Could have done with fewer stitches, will do next time.
