OK. Frogged it. Main reason was that the upper part was way too wide, especially in relation to the lower part, where I did massive waist shaping.
In addition, it had a massive shoulder slope - too much for my square shoulders, I think. And I did not like the increases. I will probably use the yarn - at least the pink- for a sweater again, but not for a contiguous - I think this is not for my body type.
What I liked
- How the pink yarn looked knitted as a sweater, really nice! Will use it for a sweater again.
- The “Schwarzwaldzöpfle”-Pattern, especially when combined with 3 faux cables, separated by 2 purl stitches
- The idea of using colour blocks, lower part different colour from top.
- The dark grey merino sockyarn (used in lower part of body)- very nice feel!
What I disliked and why I frogged it
- Way too wide in upper part - should have checked gauge more often
- Shoulder slope way too much for my square shoulders
- How the increases looked on top of shoulder - I had to increase from purl stitches as I placed a caple on top - did look messy
- Off-white yarn directly next to face made me look pale.
- Contrast between dark grey and pink too much
- Had to use a different grey for arms as I did not have enough yarn - too many colour shades!
- Dark grey yarn did not show the cable pattern properly
- Wide cable pattern on sleeve did not look good.
Like my sockyarn cardigans and sweater, so I will try another one and hope the fit will be better this time .
Will estimate a gauge of 24 stitches 35 rows to 10 cm and will try the increase method Tichiro describes here
Intend to use the Falsches Schwarzwaldzoepfle on top of sleeves and front neck. The pattern works as a counter - will need 12 repeats unti I work 2 repeats plain, then 3 repeats with increases: 17 repeats in total
July 28th
Finished 2/3 of the sleeve length, so will start the final increases now - will do 4 increases per round every other row instead of 2 every row - like I did with to “seam”
July 31st
Separated sleeves from the body and was afraid that the body is way too wide - I have stitches worth 110 cm around which is quite a little bit more than I would have wanted - but tried it on today and it looks ok.
Aug 19th
Finished knitting of body - should be ok, still not sure if the top is not too wide… However, will finish sleeves with lighter grey yarn as body grey is running scarce. Kind of unmotivated to finish, will have to make sure to pick up arm stitches soon so that I will go on.
Shoulder width: 36 cm
Neck opening: 18 cm = 44 Maschen
Neck depth: ca. 4 cm = 14 Reihen
