12/24/2009: After frogging my last attempt with this pattern, I took out some heavier worsted weight yarn, about 5.5 ounces. I divided it into two 2.7 ounce skeins. I casted on again, using a two needle cast on (not the long tail cast on). I knitted the first two rows before starting the kp ribbing. With the heavier yarn, this project is turning out much larger. I am wondering if the size will be large enough to wear? Probably not.

12/28/2009: This method is really cumbersome. I’m beginning to think it may not be worthwhile. Two things about it are the constant maintenance of the two balls of yarn, and the needles along with the cables - trying to keep them straight and untangled. The other thing is that the constant sliding of the work up and down the cables, two times every round. I found that attaching a small loop of yarn in the middle of each round to separate each side of the round is better than holding a loop in the cable. I can use the loose end of the yarn to pull out the loop whenever I need it, and this saves time working with the cables. But anyway, trying to concentrate on the cables and stitches and everything is so distracting, it’s really tough to do a project using the 40” cable. I find that I am so distracted by the long cables and balls of yarn and all the work keeping things untangled had the effect of getting me to twist a lot of stitches and alter the tension from stitch to stitch. I don’t know if I’m going to keep trying this method. It’s also really hard on the cables, which are expensive. I’m frogging this project. This is the most stupid method EVER!
