8/1/13 So I’ve decided to do the rows 1-8 in garter stitch, and then 9-12 in Tunisian crochet (simple stitch), and repeat that 12 row pattern (still random colors) throughout the blanket. With interchangeable needles, I just swap out one knitting needle end for the crochet hook of the same size, do four passes in Tunisian, then swap the knitting needle tip back onto the cord and continue in garter stitch for the next 8 rows. Knit through the back loop for first row after crochet.
I’m not entirely sure how it will turn out in the end, but it’s fun to swap between the two crafts on the same project and I get to use my interchangeable needles in a different way.
This would also be a great way to bind off. Knit to the end of the blanket, then swap out for a crochet hook to bind off with Tunisian for a nice looking edge.
Long term project to use up scraps. I CO 242 stitches using the chain cast on (crochet cast on.) Garter stitch, switching colors every row, tying off fringe in groups of 3. I also think this would look really cool in Tunisian crochet.
I have quite a bit of worsted and DK weight, but I’ll be working in some leftover sock yarn and also my first few handspun experiments. I’m not going to be picky about the fiber. I have acrylic, wool, cotton, blends.. whatever. The only thing I’m not sure I can work in is the gigantic super bulky yarn I have leftover from my Umaro … Maybe if I do K2tog for the rows with that yarn and then kfb on the row after it? We’ll see… Might just leave it out.
I recently got rid of a ton of scraps in a fit of cleaning (mostly cheap acrylic stuff,) so I’m not starting out with as much leftover as I could have, but I still have lots. I’m sure I’m not going to be at a loss for yarn any time soon. haha. ;)
