Out of curiosity I’m giving these socks a go. I’m intrigued by the heel - questions in my head are whether they will fit well or will they slip, and whether the heel will wear out (I’m guessing not as in theory there’s no difference between this heel and a typical short row heel in terms of reinforcement).

Knit toe up.

Toes: Umbrella toes from Kay Jones Umbrella Socks pattern.

Foot: knit until sock measured 6”

Heel: Knit rib for 6.5”

Leg: knit for a further 2.5”

Cuff: 14: rounds of 2x2 rib

Bind off: Jeny’s surprisingly stretchy bind off - loosely.

Weight of finished socks: 71g

Next time: knit to 5” and knit heel for 5”

First fit and they feel good. As I’ve knit these in the summer it won’t be until later in the year that I can properly road test them - to feed back.
