I have been dying to make something awesome with this yarn ever since I got my hands on it, and I’m happy to have come up with a worthy pattern! These suckers are my new favorite thing. I’m actually a little scared to start wearing them -- considering tying them on to my coat so I can’t lose them.

I must say though, there are a lot of things about mitten design I understand a lot better now -- like why thumbs are usually knit in checkerboard pattern (floats on thumbs are irritating!) and why the palm and back-of-the-hand patterns are usually distinct (skew, ugh.) Nevertheless: these octopi rock my world.

This yarn’s awesomeness is beyond my descriptive powers, but I will try (middle pictures have truest colors). Lovely to knit with, but the real knockout is the colors. Pure orange is such a hard color to get right -- I’ve seen so much orange yarn that you could knit traffic-safety gear from. This shade conjures ripe oranges and tropical goldfish and avoids traffic cones altogether (I think the minor variegations make it perfect, in fact). The blue-green-teal is simply gorgeous.
