I’ve crocheted trims and edges in conjunction with previous machine knitted projects before. However, this was my first fully crochet project in decades.

This was a pattern from one of the Japanese pattern book. I don’t know Japanese but fortunately, the book was full of diagram and numbers enough that I could follow the pattern.

The gauge however, was another story. Since I don’t know what type of yarn was called for, I used what I had, a 2 mm raffia yarn. As for the hook, I used a 3.5 mm hook. Well, the crown shape of the hat came out 2 cm shorter and 2 cm wider than what the pattern showed for. It is that way when I wear it too, a bit short and wide in the fitting.

Nevertheless, the hat turned out nicely. Now, I know where to adjust the pattern for fitting on my next one. So, I’ll be doing a few more for family members.

On the side note: After checking around, I now know that the designer of this pattern, Michiyo, is on Ravelry. Her associate explained that this pattern was originally published in one of Michiyo pattern book in 2009.
