This cardigan was executed much better than the last one. It was knitted pretty much the same way as the previous one, the Emeral Butterfly Lace Cardigan, but with some exceptions.
The sleeves were knitted from top down, from the shoulder down toward the cuffs. This was my first attempt with this technique and it was successful. I found it easier than anticipated. If you’d like to try out this technique, here’s a tutorial video from Diana Sullivan: Set-In Sleeve Machine Knitted Upside Down. I didn’t use a written instruction pattern as in Diana’s video; instead, I used the sleeve outline drafted out on the Mylar sheet which was used in conjunction with the Knit Leader. For more info about using the Mylar sheet outline, please read it here.
The lace cuffs were machine knitted separately since they needed to be knitted from the opposite direction. Then, they were seamed to the sleeves using the Kitchener stitch.
The collar was machine knitted separately from the hemline toward the neckline. I began with the highest tension for a loser stitch size (T/10.1) at the hemline and decreased the tension (tighter stitch size) as I knitted toward the neckline (T/7.1). This helped the collar to fold over better and stayed flat at the edge.
The hem, sleeve cuffs and collar lace pattern was taken from part of Foldi Knit’s Butterfly Lace Shawl lace pattern.
