This cocktail purse was machine knitted.
The beading was not done in the traditional way in machine knitting. The beads were small and they were threaded in the yarn before casting-on. The beads were pull into the stitch one by one as the stitch was formed manually. After a row of beads (knitted manually), the carriage was used to knit 2 rows in between each row of beads.
It was a slow process but enabled to use the small size beads.
The shape of the purse was designed to fit the handle frame. Lining of the purse was machine sewn.
The last photo section shows the typical way of adding beads using a beading tool. Here’s how:
Note: Depending on the size of the beads, set a loser tension on the row that beads are to be added. The stitches on that row need to be large enough for the beads to go through, plus enough room for the row to be knit with the carriage.
-
Slide several beads onto the beading tool.
-
Transfer the stitch on the KM needle over to the beading tool.
-
Slide 1 bead over the stitch.
-
Transfer the stitch from the beading tool over the KM needle.
-
Continue throughout the row. Then, knit that row slowly with the carriage.
Note: If a beading tool is not available, a small-head crochet hook can be used in a similar way.
