Feeling like celebrating because I finally found some affordable laceweight wool to make Branch, which was the design that first really spoke to me in Landed, Volume 1: The Avalon, but I didn’t have stash for it!
In my excitement, I forgot to order one color! gah! And then the Rav description lists six misnumbered CCs, not seven, so I am TWO colors short. Gah!
Size 4
MC will be dark brown
CC1 will be the Istex Ash Heather
CC2 will also be Istex Ash Heather
CC3 will be light brown
CC4 will be pastel blue —they say Color #142, MISLABELED AS #143
CC 5 will be medium grey
CC 6 will also be medium grey
CC 7 will be denim

Using 2.5 mm needle instead of 2.25 because that’s what I have with a 60-inch cable.

Doing a regular waistband casing. Provisional cast-on of 364 stitches for a size 3. Working flat for an inch and then in the round for 1.5 inches, creating a hole for the elastic, which I will feed through later. Knit both sets of live stitches (working and provisional) together to make the waistband casing.
There is a good photo tutorial for a skirt waistband in Аroma of Mulled Wine.

First stage complete! On to steeking and skirt body inserts.

Totally ingenious design of the inserts: The lace pattern on the inserts serves as markers for the short rows, and it is just so darned cool. Such a pleasure to knit.

My first insert seems to hang askew, though the ends seem to align to same place on each side of colorwork pattern. Maybe it is because of the short rows on one side? Hoping the addition of the bottom hem and blocking will help it align better.

On the last insert! This design has 21 steeks and 1001 Kitchenered stitches. I feel chuffed having soldiered through!

The pattern says to use CC1 for edging, but the pictures show MC. I am going with MC.

Finished. Blocking now!

It really grew with blocking, adding several inches Iength. So it’s a maxi for me. Still love it.
