Notes

The Mary Maxim pattern was followed for the toddler size 4T using a 4 mm crochet hook. A variety of worsted weight or sport weight yarns were used from leftover project stash. Twenty-three granny squares, of 4 rounds each were made. For half outline each square in butterscotch using single crochet; for second half use black or dark grey single crochet. Sew together squares, following layout in pattern. Make band using light grey single crochet around fronts and bottom of cardigan, doing 8 rounds of single crochet, adding two chain stitches when turning corners. Fasten off. By using the thicker yarn than called for in the pattern, the cardigan is slightly larger, a child size 3 or 4. Also by sewing the squares together rather than single crocheting with a contrasting yarn, it makes the sweater less bulky. Using one colour for the band, gives it a less busy and more simple look. But I also like the multicoloured band, where each round is done in a different colour.
