Notes

Make 8 cotton washcloths in coordinating colours. I used the Classic Diagonal Knit pattern posted on my Ravelry link (also titled Grannies Favourite Dishcloth on my Ravelry postings).

Sew together into two groups of four; then sew the two panels together on three sides to make the body of the bag. To make optional top rim: Using one of the cottons in the bag, do three rounds of single crochet, bind off. Crochet a strap in double crochet, 8 sts wide and desired length. Sew straps to side seams & work in ends. Originally for the green bag I was going to alternate rectangles of green and white; but when I used the pear Ombre yarn I liked the match better.

On the orange-yellow version the strap was increased to 10 sts wide and using a 4mm crochet hook, double-crochet two strips to the desired length for side handles. The straps were centered and sewn onto the front and back panels. Decorative coordinating buttons were sewn onto the straps at the end.

For the multicoloured Green-White-Gold variegated yarn, sew together the striped wash cloths to make a ‘bulls eye.’ Sew together side and bottom seams for sets of 4 each. Leave top open. Turn right side out. Use same yarn make a border around the top about 8 rounds wide using a single crochet stitch, until about an inch wide, fasten off. Make one long strap 8 stitches wide and length desired using double crochet stitch. Attach to side seams for a cross body or shoulder strap. Sew on decorative buttons at front and back in centre of bullseyes.
