My modifications:

1. Matched length of husband’s fav shorts, and made SC foundation chain to match
2. 2 rows of HDC of each color in place of DC stitches
3. Final row completed midway (at crotch) for inseam shaping
4. Sewed inner lining
5. Seamed pieces together with slip stitch/chain 1
6. Added a few SC rows on the backside
7. SC around entire top
8. Picked up stitches to knit around elastic waist band.
