Notes

I loved The Sticky and was excited when Glenda released this pattern. My yarn colorways differ from Ruth’s (the character who wore this hat), but are Canadian. I hope to wear this hat in December and channel Ruth when people feel their time is more valuable than mine while prepping for the holidays. rolling_on_the_floor_laughing Glenda did a great job charting this hat. heart

Mods (because I am a tight knitter and am using a light worsted-weight yarn for MC):

  • CO 108 sts (instead of 88) with German twisted CO and worked 4” of ribbing with US 7 needles.
  • Turned my work inside out after ribbing, fixed the hole, and continued to chart 1. (I think my CO edge and combination ribbing look nicer from the right side. Now the right side will be prominent when brim is folded up.)
  • Started colorwork section with US 8 needles. Hat was gaining height quickly so I downsized to US 7 needles at r27, US 6 at r37, and US 5 at r45.
  • I omitted r35.

Post-blocking Gauges

  • 21 sts and 22 rounds per 4”, colorwork, US 8 needles
  • 22 sts and 24 rounds per 4”, colorwork, US 7 needles

The hat was tight before blocking and fit great after blocking.

If I were to make this again with the same yarn, I would CO an additional 18 sts and try knitting the entire hat with US 7 needles. The yarn and US 7 needle combo in the current hat resulted in a great fabric (but would have been too tight with 108 sts I chose for this hat or the pattern’s recommended 88 sts; the US 7 section worked with 108 sts in this hat because it was near the top of my head).
