Long story on this project. I saw a picture of a granny square blanket on line made by Sandra Juto. And i just about had a massive break down! I HAD to have it. I loved everything about it. The colors…the fiber…the texture. So I wrote her asking for the pattern. Which of course she would not share. Well…..I know how to crochet too…..so i spent the next week blowing up pictures of her blanket in photoshop and analyzing the stitch pattern and made my own pattern…..THEN of course …..I found a pattern here on Ravelry which I probably could have used. Called Flowers in the snow….And naturally not long after i began crocheting the squares together Sandra Juto decided to publish directions for her blanket on her blog. Oh Well.
I used Cascade Superwash 220 Sport weight yarn. I ordered it from http://www.abundantyarn.com And can I say they are AWESOME. The wideset selection of colors and EXCELLENT customer service.
If I were to make this again I would probably opt for the worsted weight next go around. LOTS and LOTS of granny squares and LOTS and LOTS of tails to tuck in. But the effect is pretty awesome.
I purchased one skein of just about every color of the Cascade Superwash 220 made, and made a serious effort not to have any two squares the same.
Once I completed the inner circles I laid them all out on my light colored counter for DAYS and and photographed and rearranged them millions of times to see what needed to be moved around. (problems really stand out in photos….it’s true….pictures do not lie.
I began the project in June of 2013 and worked obsessively around the clock on it for several weeks. and got burned out. I have about 1/3 of the squares sewn together.
