Provisional Cast On 104 st. 1x1 rib on size 4 needle for 1.5 inches. One row p on size 7 needle. Started color work. When the colorwork was the same length as the ribbing I knit the working stitches and the provisional stitches together to make a band that folded at the purl row. This made a tidy ribbed edge on the inside and stockinette color work on the outside of the band. This brought the dogs down lower on my head so it’s easy to see the entire dog.

To make a smaller hat - I cast on 96 stitches and then increased to 104 stitches on the last row before the section with the dogs.

The band is done in stranded color work but the dogs were done in duplicate stitch. I tried doing the dogs in stranded knitting but the hat didn’t have enough stretch.

To reduce stitches on the top I used 13 groups of 8 stitches and did a K2tog at the end of each section followed by a knit row. Then went to k2tog around the hat every other row until I had about 8 stitches.
