1 warp = 2 projects so I’m only going to show half the amount of warp metreage here in the above totals, the other half will be shown in the next project using this same warp.
This weaving will be a lining.
Warp: Undyed Silk, 20/2 - 874 lengths of 7.2m dyed turquoise
Weft: Zürcher Stalder Schappe-Seide - dyed in a colour to be decided.
I have dyed 7 hanks of the undyed 20/2 silk into a subtle turquoise gradient and will wind the warp in 2 lots starting from the lightest through to the darkest which will be the centre of the fabric.
March 16 & 17: wound 7.2m warp and, with the help of the love of my life it is now wound onto the loom ready to thread tomorrow.
March 18: heddles threaded
10 dent reed threaded 3 ends per dent
April 4: weaving reached 2.7 metres, I need approximately 3 metres so I hope to be able to cut this first part of the warp off the loom tomorrow.
Outer fabric: badly mistreated 1/27 merino.
Machine knitted at tension 6.1
Made 1 piece 200sts by 1250 rows
2nd piece 200sts by 625 rows
Weighs 340.5g = 11,218.5m (wow!)
March 31: Thrown in the washing machine!! waiting nervously to see what (if anything) comes out …
40 minutes later: it survived! Whew! And it’s gorgeous - shrunk, slightly matted but not overly so. It’s still incredibly soft and drapey even whilst wet. If I wanted it even more matted I could probably put it in the dryer but, for this project, I think that once it’s been through the dyeing process it should be pretty much perfect. Feeling very happy (and more than a little bit relieved)
April 15: this is now finished, I’m really rather pleased with it, it has certainly pushed me out of my comfort zone and then some! Final photos to follow at the end of the month.
The beautiful finishing touches of the stylised ‘79’ brooch and alchemy symbol earrings are bobbin lace worked in wire and made by kerikerin, you can read her project notes here
