Acrylic and acrylic blend blankets assembled for the 2025 Blanket Block Bonanza campaign, with Hats and More for Refugees Worldwide.

25 Jan 2025: 1A is named Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido by the amazing and absolutely adorable Karol G. These pinks and purples are for her. The title is for me because I am always second-guessing my block selection and placement. “If only I had put that one there,” or, “If I had waited a week, the perfect square would have arrived.” Now I will just play Karol G and get over it.

1 Feb 2025: 2A is named for the light blue color that Grupo Bronco and Gueynaa are wearing in the video of Matame De a Poquito Kill Me Slowly (With Love). star-struck I can’t get enough of this song!

Mátame de a poquito
Que en tus manos
Me falte la respiración
Y se sienta bonito

Kill me slowly
Let it be that in your hands
You take my breath away
And it would feel so good.

6 Feb 2025: 3A is Get Yourself Together by The Black Keys. The pink and black of the album cover and video thumbnail inspired me as I was telling myself I needed to get it together and figure out another blanket.

11 Feb 2025: 4A was inspired by the album cover of Boleros de Oro by Pedro Infante. It’s absolutely one of my favorites. One of the best songs is Sincero Corazón

Sé, que jamás he de olvidarte
Sé, que te quiero todavía
Que en mis besos yo te di mi vida entera
Te lo juro, soy sincero, corazón

I know that I have never forgotten you
I know that I love you still
That in my kisses I gave you my entire life
I swear I’m sincere, darling.

15 Feb 2025: 5A was inspired by rohai commenting on Smokey the Bear in the blanket campaign thread. Well, of course, the earworm Smokey the Bar by Hank Thompson and the Brazos Valley Boys popped up and got stuck in my head until there were enough squares to make a blanket with forest colors.

19 Feb 2025: The combos of rust and blue in the multicolored squares had me thinking of Junior Brown’s song Venom Wearin’ Denim. Lots of fun puns on snake names in this one, especially the “pretty but she’s poison like a copper-headed queen” and “If you give that gal a diamond ring you’ll get a diamondback.” joy

8 March 2025: My obsession with Pedro Infante continues. As the song says, “Divino Tormento.” smile However, the earworm for this blanket is Enamorada. I just cannot get enough of this song!

Asi, enamorada
Entregame tu la caricia suprema del amor
La luz en la mirada
Que ahuyente esa lagrima tuya y olvida el rencor…
Y deja esta noche apasionada
Que el mundo juzque locos a los dos

Just like this, so much in love
Surrender to me the ultimate caress of love
Let the light in your gaze
Drive away your tears and forget about rancor
And on this passionate night, let the whole world
Judge us to be lunatics.

20 March 2025: Well, to no one’s surprise, 8A is more inspiration from Pedro Infante. The lovely greens in this blanket, with all squares made by pegmcc, provided the earworm of Nocturnal. The Spanish lyrics are in the linked video, so only my bad translation is here.

Beyond the palms that tranquilly sleep
The silver moon murmurs in the tropical sea
And my arms reach out hungrily in search of you
In the night, the perfume of flowers evokes your intoxicating breath
And the sweet kiss of your lips
My lips thirsty lips await a kiss from you,
Feeling that you are next to me
But it’s a lie, an illusion
And so I pass the hours and nights
Asking life for the miracle of being next to you
And perhaps not even in your dreams
Do you remember me

24 March 2025: 10A--The bright pink squares ended up next to the gold-bordered squares in The Incubator. This sparked the ultimate earworm, Manah Manah. The squares were chosen to go with the colors of the 3 singing Muppets.

8 April 2025: 80s comfort music has been keeping me grounded. Blanket 11A was inspired by the colors in the video of Just Like Heaven by The Cure.

15 Apr 2025: 12A is named for a delightful song, Tacones Rojos (Red High Heels) by Sebastian Yatra.

My ray of sunshine, the apple of my eye
She has a collection of broken hearts
My ray of sunshine, the apple of my eye
The one who dances reggaeton in red high heels
And she makes me fly, she makes me cry
She makes me suffer but I don’t stop loving her
Because she makes me feel like I won the lottery
Before her, I didn’t know someone could love me so

19 April 2025: The tropical colors of the squares for 13A took me immediately to the video for Caro Emerald’s A Night Like This. palm_treecocktail

22 April 2025: 14A is named for the song Daylight by Shinedown. I love this song.

You saved my life, not once but twice
You keep me safe from falling
You saved my life, make it alright
When I don’t feel like talking
You make sure I always see the daylight.

27 April 2025: Sometimes an earworm arrives without a blanket. Sometimes a blanket comes together without an earworm. When this happens, I figure it’s kismet and they were meant to be together. The earworm for this blanket is a Gen X anthem, Closer to Free by the Bodeans.

Everybody one, everybody two, everybody free!
Everybody wants to live like they wanna live
Everybody wants to love like they wanna love
Everybody wants to be closer to free

2 May 2025: Given these colors, 16A is of course another Karol G song, Mi Ex Tenia Razón (My Ex Was Right.)

Mi ex tenía razón
Dijo que no iba a encontrar uno como él
Y me llegó uno mejor
Que me trata mejor
Mi ex tenía razón

My ex was right
He said I wasn’t going to find another like him
And another man arrived
Who treats me better
My ex was right

4 May 2025: 17A is the final acrylic blanket for the 2025 campaign. The bright, happy colors had me singing Kookee Kookee by The Kiffness.

There was a cockatiel-o who sang kookee kookee
The doctor told me that it’s not a normal melody
The song had a supernatural ability
To cure any sadness for you and me
Oh baby, why don’t we go down to the cockatiel-o?
A song that only we know can make us feel alright
Kookee kookee, kookee kookee….
