This was inspired by CatsPajamas who knitted the Freja mitts big for an oven glove and who discovered the pattern didn’t translate to ‘bigger is better’. So I realised I needed a good pattern if I wanted to make an oven mitt. Ended up using Sandnesgarn Tova Votter kit number 13 felted mitten pattern (in Norwegian). I made the biggest size using magic loop technique - (not the one for Fritidsgarn but the first one). Then I duplicate-stitched the Freja design on it. Made many mistakes and it’s still not perfectly symmetrical.
I replaced the cast-on row and the garter stitch border at the end with a simple bind off instead.
This glove would take two balls main colour and one for contrast. If I hadn’t made a swatch (I’d originally planned to make my own pattern), I would have had enough in main colour to finish it. But had to use contrast to finish thumb. You shouldn’t have to.
Please note that the glove had a pointed top which rounded off after felting.
I am really thrilled because it turned out exactly as I hoped it would.
