Notes

I finally started a pattern for myself after 6 months of knitting for my friends, I really needed that!

The pattern construction is super interesting and challenging at times for me (never did an invisible cast on and the construction is a bit unusual for me). It’s actually also my first Cardigan! Only knitted pullovers so far :D

I was way off gauge with 4.5mm needles, so I reduceed to 4mm. The number of sts fits now, but my length is still a bit off (30rows instead of 32). I’m not too worried though, as I’d like it a bit longer.

I’m knitting an S because I don’t want 20cm ease, it would look awful on me, but I do want it a bit longer (ideally 55, 56 cm).

Yesterday I finally finished the back part, so I need to start with judy invisible cast on next.

I decided to follow the number of rows (even though I got 27cm instead of 25cm for the back piece) because anyway I want it a bit longer in the end. Hopefully it won’t be too baggy on the arms.

Trying to figure out the provisional cast on with judy magic cast on… The video provided in the pattern I’m not sure fits the case of the pattern… I think I’ll use this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XxWrRtMFboM

I tried using the recommended video but before starting with the rib, I would have to knit 2 or 4 rows(in total) of stockinette, and that would potentially look weird in the end

Final comment about Judy’s magic cast on: in the end I did an hybrid between the recommended video and the one I posted above. Basically I started with a slipknot and therefore counted that as first stitch on the top needle, but moved like the video linked above, so picking up the strand below (with the top needle) from top to bottom instead that bottom to top, so that I don’t have to reverse the stitches then or do a k tbl. I knitted the first presented 16 stitches in pattern already and directly put the others on hold. Looks good I think!

Thinking ahead on buttonhole, I think I’ll use this tutorial https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqiKTbgvO-o&t=55s and the horizontal buttonhole

28.10.2022

I finally connected back and front! Now I’m in buttons panic mode: I have 2cm coconut ones but I’m not sure I like them tbh

01.11.2022

I bought new buttons: their size is 2.8cm, so I’m going to use a horizontal buttonhole for 4 sts as follows:
ribbing x 5, 4sts as button hole (using https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LqiKTbgvO-o&t=55s as said), ribbing x 6. Considering the last stitch basically goes to the side, I expect it to be more in the middle this way.
I don’t like that in the original pattern the button holes seem to be leaning on the border of the hem.

18.11.2022

I almost finished the body, I just miss around 10 rows of the hem. I did some adjustments:
I did 8 rows between buttons instead of 10, so reach 6cm. I regret it now because I think it will be a bit too cropped for my taste in the end, but we’ll see.
I decided to reduce needle size for the hem, so I moved to 3.5mm needles (I plan to do the same for the cuffs)

22.12.2022

Had to pause it after starting one sleeve: I left for holidays and the project was too big to bring, plus I decided to knit a chunky sweater (Marble sweater) as a christmas present, so I have to prioritize that. I’ll come back to this as soon as I’m over with the chunky sweater

19.12.2023

Aaand I picked up where I had left after one year and finally finally finished it!
I had to add a good 10cm to the sleeves.

After blocking it really looks nice but it’s a bit short. I was too impatient I guess, I would have preferred 2-3cm longer. Nevertheless I think it will look nice with skirts or high waist jeans
