I normally make this hat with a C (2.75mm) hook, but because I wasn’t paying attention, went I took this on vacation with me, brought only the D (3.25mm) hook with me (it was the last hook I used is my only defense)

I realized as soon as I started that I had the wrong hook, but didn’t have any other options with me, so worked all the crown increases during travel time to Williamsburg, VA. At this point I could tell it would be way too large. Because I didn’t know how many increases to remove for that size hook, or difference in yarn usage (etc) I decided to frog back to the beginning.

I bought a really crappy B (2.25mm) hook from Walmart and restarted. They didn’t have a C in stock, so I bought what was available. I’m glad I did. The LYS I visited later in my trip, didn’t have any crochet hooks for sale. Plus the Walmart hook replaced an even crappier B hook I had at home, but never used because I hated it so much.

Worked Cayenne first: increased by 6, every round up to 150 (25 rounds) worked a total of 81 rounds

Changed to 2.5mm hook on round 32 of striped side of the hat. Also, worked 81 rounds (27 stripes of 3 rounds)
