Notes

Ears (in Black & Natural):

Similar to Zane, but adjusted for size AND real zebras don’t have striped ears. Starting with black, MR, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30, 30, 30, 27, 24, 21, 21, 21, 21, 20, SC closed (10), slip stitch together (5). Leave long tail for attachment later.

change to natural 2 stitches before beginning of 6th round

(784 stitches for the pair)

Tail (in Natural & Black, hairs in Mossy Black):

Similar to Zane, but adjusted for size and personal preference. Starting with Natural MR, 5, 10, 10 for 18 more rounds (20 total) SC closed (5). Leave long tail for attachment later.

Alternate 3 rounds of each color stripes after initial 6 rounds of Natural. Cut 13x 6 inch hairs in Mossy Black, attached into the extra 3 rounds of white at the tip of tail.

(100 stitches)

Forelegs (in Mossy Black, Natural, & Black):

as Plushy Bear, but doubled. Starting with Mossy Black MR, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 33 more rounds of 36, stuff, SC closed (18), FO.

7th round in BLO, Mossy Black to 10th round, 11th round (in Natural) starts stripes; 3 rounds each white and black

(2736 stitches for the pair)

Head (in Natural & Black):

as Zane the Zebra but increased x1.6 to match stitch count of Plushy Bear (doubled) body parts. Starting with black MR, 6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36, 42, 48, 54, 60, 66, 72, 66, 60, 54, 48, 48 4 more times (5 total), 54, 60, 66, 72, 78, 84, 90, 96, 96 16 more times (17 total), 90, 84, 78, 72, 66, 60, 54, 48, 42, 36, 30, 24, 18, 12, 6, stuff before the rounds become too small, then FO.

Black to 14th round, 3 sets of 3 round stripes, 6 rounds of Natural (eyes placed between 35 & 36 rounds with 24 stitches between). 3.5 more stripes after wide eye stripe.

I inset the the eyes after stuffing like the Zane pattern and added eye lids (10SC directly onto the head, from inner eye corner out on the 1st eye, then outer corner in (so the SC were facing the same direction). Attached the ears, directly behind the eyes, centered on round 46.

(3744 stitches)

Body (in Natural & Black):

Whenever the head shape doesn’t allow to continue unbroken directly to the body, I prefer this method over sewing the stuffed head and body together. Starting with Natural MR, 6, 12, 18, 24, place the circle on the bottom of the head, SC 24 thru circle SC and stitches on head, 30, 36, SC 36 thru circle SC and stitches on head (this is the 1st visible round and corresponds with the last/first round of Plushy Bear).

To point nose down slightly, SC9 in the stitches that would be the “back” of the animal, yarn might not be in the correct place, slip into 10th stitch ch1 turn, SC9, slip into 10th stitch ch1 turn. Resume working in the round as normal, just one side is higher than the other.

as Plushy Bear but doubled and working top down. 36 (worked above) 36, 42, 48, use the 5th round (48) to attach Forelegs, crocheting thru both loops of body and both loops of final row of Foreleg. I used 4SC between legs in the front of the animal (this might not be halfway of the round) and 8SC between in the back, 48, 52, 56, 56, 56, 60, 64, 64, 64, 68, 72, 72 4 more times (5 total), 76, 80, 80 4 more times (5 total), 84, 88, 88, 88, 90, 92, 92, 92, 94, 96, 96 4 more times (5 total), 92, 88, 86, 84, 82, 80, do NOT FO continue to Hind Leg

3 round stripes of each Natural and Black, first round of black is visible round 4, and final round is a single round of black

I attached the tail vertically centered over round 35 (2nd to last full black stripe) and completed 5 rounds of each hind leg before stuffing.

(3602 stitches)

Hind legs (in Black, Natural, & Mossy Black):

as Plushy Bear, but doubled and top down. Continuing with Black from Body work 36 (skip 40SC if this is 1st leg, might not be center of round, should be center of animal), 36 8 more times (9 total), BLO 30, 24, 18, 12, 6 FO re-attach Black into any of 40 skipped SC to repeat for 2nd leg

2 rounds of black, 3 rounds of Natural, 9 rounds of Mossy Black

(900 stitches for the pair)

Mane (in Natural & Mossy Black):

As Zane the Zebra, 9 stitches across, 4 inch stands. Used 2.91 grams of Natural and 4.55 grams of Mossy Black.
