Notes

I love him, and he has a larger head. My measurements will need to be specific.

09-12-2022

Starting notes: Intending to make a skullcap/beanie style of hat.
Stitch type: Finnish
Starting from: Closed end of the piece, spiral design, 16 stitches/sections from two colors/pieces of yarn.
Needles Used: Two Medium Elk Cannonbone (Lower Leg Bone) nalbinding needles from Mikhail Novgorodets (MKA Michael Suggs)

Head Circumference: 23.5”
Target hat depth when laid flat: 9.5”

Huh. 13 stitches per section comes out to about 20” circumference this time. Peculiar. I’m glad I measured. I wonder if I had an extra row or two of “adjustment” when starting James’ hat… I don’t remember. I need to take better notes.

11-10-2022

Measured again, 14 stitches, 21.5” circumference. I must have done an extra starting iteration for Jim’s hat?

Either way. One more iteration of increases brings me to 23” and then after that I’ll do the four iterations of one increase every fourth section perhaps. I think I’d rather go too big than too small, it can always shrink in felting.

01-06-2023

15 stitches per section did bring me to 23”. I’m going to go ahead and do one increase every fourth section for four iterations.

01-06-2023

one increase every 4 section brings me to 24 inches

06-22-2023

At long last… I have three rows left. Why did this hat take me nine months to make.
