A coppery mobius strip done in Mammen stitch, decreased to form a hat!

Started in the middle originally until Tomohiko advised me that the original version began as the full circumference of the adult head and was decreased. A couple of false starts, one of which I was able to turn into a hair scrunchie of sorts though.

Started with a 24” chain (8” each of copper, turquoise, and copper end-to-end) and twisted it once when joining the last section onto the first. Went for one full round of each color, ie three rows total, before marking the entirety of one edge of the strip with 4 decreases. Went for one full round (3 rows total) of 4 decreases, then added 2 more markers for a total of 6 decreases. I continued on until the top tightened up to the point that the mobius strip folded closed on itself.

The hat can “rotate” but has a pair of orientations it prefers to lie at. Some think it looks awkward, but both the recipient and I find it quite charming.
