Notes

Very hastily improvised toe covers in an attempt to keep my toes warm while carol singing. I didn’t attempt the ribbing section, so these are basically simply egg-cosy shaped objects. (I have a suspicion that the right-hand one ended up a row short, even though I counted ten rows on both before starting the decreases! )

I used a 4mm hook with brown mohair that was probably close to DC weight. Starting off with 34 half-treble stitches and then reducing to 32 stitches produced a cosy about 10” in circumference, to fit a 9” foot with thick socks underneath! I worked ten rows of half tr, then decreased for the toe as given in the pattern. Ideally I think I would probably have made them a row or two longer, especially if I plan to cycle in them (my toes also get very cold when cycling).

The toe warmers have stretched quite a bit in use and moulded to my feet - they now fall just below the visible front of my shoes, which is ideal. I definitely wouldn’t have wanted them to be any longer, and it’s just as well I didn’t attach any heel elastic/straps!

These have really been surprisingly successful. It hasn’t been quite so cold since I finished them, I think, but I haven’t had any further problems at all with cold toes. Working in mohair paid off.
