I wove this rag rug based on an elevation profile of Moose Mountain in Lutsen, MN as run by my husband, Kit, during the Superior 100 race during 2024.
I cut 1” strips from two duvet covers. The black and white one was purchased from the thrift store for $0.50 and the white one was aquired on Buy Nothing. I dyed the white strips with avocado dye. Then I sewed the short ends together to get continuous weft.
The rug was woven in a modified twill with an 8/2 cotton warp with 283 picks. Each pick marked the elevation in feet at a particular point on the race course, so it was almost like I was running the race along with him!
Total weight = 4 lbs
Total size: 62” x 39”
400 ends, doubled (800 total ends) of 8/2 cotton from Captain Yarn (Canada)
283 picks, about 5ppi
Used 5 dent reed, threading a pair of doubled ends in each slot.
