11/2/13 The body of this shawl is great mindless knitting - all you have to remember is the increases and decreases at the edge for shaping. I flew through the stockinette part. Now I’m at the edging, trying to pick up the stitches so they look neat….and am very grateful for my short haircut, because I feel sure that if my hair were still long, i’d be pulling it out in frustration.

I’ve tried about 10 times to pick up the edging, and it looks like a MESS each time, because I don’t know how to pick up edging with a yarn over. Some Googling DID tell me that i misread the pattern, and that I should be putting a new YO every OTHER stitch, not in between EACH stitch. Here’s hoping that helps matters, or I might just give this to my cat and tell him to go nuts.

So, despite ripping back on the edging about 10 times, once I figured it out, it looked very nice and neat. The edging too just about as long as the rest of the shawl did, but I’m really happy with the outcome. It blocked really nicely and I think it looks great!

…later on 11/2/13 - Picked up edge stitches instead of trying to pick up the yarn overs in the edging (whatever the hell that means), and it looks perfectly fine. The only problem is that I’ve ended up with 126 extra stitches instead of 99. So, in true lazy / frustrated knitter fashion, i’m just p2tog every 4th stitch on the next row.
