When I was learning to read, I would tell a short story and my dad would write it in a composition book. Then I would draw a picture to go with the story. We would make little flash cards, one for each word. I would practice the flash cards and the reading and one day I knew how to read. I remember the moment, learning to read.

I recently came across that precious composition book.

One of my stories was about knitting! And now, fifty years later, I am knitting that blanket for my brother. Of course it must be blue. And he loves skiing and winter. And I’ve wanted to make this snowflake pattern.
