Notes

I tried several different provisional cast one, but ended up casting on with waste yarn and picking up the stitches, then pulling out the waste yarn. The easiest method.

Cast on 24 stitches on a circular needle for each round. These stitches make half the height of the tool holder since it will be folder in on itself.

  • Outer round 76 rows.
  • Next inner 56 rows.
  • Next inner 36 rows.
  • Innermost round 24 rows.

Knitted rectangles joined, first and last row, with Kitchener stitch, after getting first row on needle after removing cast-on waste yarn. Make sure picked up stitches are on the needle with both ends of the needle on one side, so the Kitchener stitch can be done.

Then turn the resulting tube in on itself. The resulting round has the garter ridges vertical around the round.

Leave a long tail when ending each section and use for Kitchener and to sew around the bottom of each round to join the two bottom edges together and then sew them together as a group at the end by going across a few times picking up each section.

I used bulky single or any other yarn bigger than lace, two strands held together. There’s no need to worry about it as long as the round isn’t too thin. No worries if the rounds are exactly the same thickness or height or anything else.

The last photos show the steps to make a round.

  1. Make a rectangle of 24 stitches wide, number of rows depending on which round you’re making, with a cast on of waste yarn.
  2. Pick up the stitches of the row after the cast on.
  3. Unpick the cast on.
  4. Kitchener stitch the first and last rows together.
  5. Finished tube. Now turn the tube in on itself.
  6. Done.
