There are three cables on the front of the hat and two on the back. On the front they are on the edges, so they go up the inside of the ears. The cables are mapped out to work with a cast-on that is divisible by 10 and to match the k2p2 ribbing. The cable row is worked every fifth row. You will need two cable needles so that the purl stitches can stay in between the two sets of knit stitches. The rows are worked like this:

• non-cable row: repeat 5 times around row: k10, (p2k2)x 2, p2
• cable row: repeat 5 times around row: k10, p2, slip 2 to cable needle, holding in back, slip 2 to second cable needle, holding in back, k2, p2 from second cable needle, k2 from first cable needle, p2

Making in the round, so cast on 100 stitches, worked the first row flat and joined to knit in the round on the second row. 3-needle bind-off to close top.

Used cable cast-on. (Didn’t bother with cable cast-on for 2x2 rib like I did for Pussy Hats #1 and #2 as it seems a waste of time. The 2x2 cast-on didn’t produce a better edge.)
