My first MKAL. Having the teaser photo that showed we were making a shawl and the yarn color changes convinced me to go all in, including purchasing the recommended yarn, in spite of my collection.

Normally I have to increase needle size to meet gauge because I am a tight knitter. After watching the Ravelry forum gauge chatter, I just used the recommended size 8 and the size was correct. I used my Addi metal needle. The yarn glides GREAT on it, even on elongated stitch! If you’ve done any lace and can tink a kfb you shouldn’t need a lifeline. Otherwise consider using one.

1st color change was only 4 stitches before the target. 2nd color change in the middle of row 76, a little early. The yarn change came earlier than expected in section 3. I had a little extra yarn after I reached section 4. By the end of section 5, the yarn was back on track. On all following sections, the color changes occurred close to pattern predictions. So even though the pattern has specific yarn targets you shouldn’t worry if for some reason you don’t hit them. The color changes will work great with the pattern.

I ended on row 194 with 2 yards of yarn left. I picked the Russian bind off and it made a really nice edge.
